Our Area: Central North Carolina, the Piedmont

Wadesboro is a small friendly southern town in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. Established in 1783, in what used to be the frontier for early settlers, Wadesboro is an historic town set amidst rolling hills and trees at the southern end of North Carolina’s "Central Park" and near the Uwharrie National Forest. Wadesboro’s central location makes it a great home base from which to venture out to discover North or South Carolina. Situated between Charlotte and the beach areas (Wilmington and Myrtle Beach), Wadesboro is about an hour from golf courses in the Pinehurst area and 2 hours from Raleigh, NC or Columbia, SC.

Wadesboro is a good overnight stop, from other states like Ohio, to the East coast beaches such as Myrtle Beach. Consider lodging in Wadesboro if you're flying into the Charlotte NC airport on your way to the beach or golf in Myrtle Beach.

Skip the Charlotte traffic if you're going to Lowes Motor Speedway or Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord. Want to explore the Uwharries and Morrow Mountain State Park? Looking for a weekend getaway or "staycation" from Charlotte, Raleigh or Greensboro areas? Relocating to the Fayetteville area due to BRAC? Looking for hotels near Wingate University? Wingate NC is just 20 minutes away. Flying into the Wadesboro Airport? Wadesboro NC airport is just 10 minutes north of us. Playing golf in Cheraw at the Cheraw State Park golf course? We're not too far away. Snowbird? Coming from Ohio or Canada? We're a great place to stay on your way to Myrtle Beach, the Grand Strand and other South Carolina beaches. The Forever Inn is on the beach route. Going to an equestrian event in our region? The Fork? Carolina Horse Park? Southern Eighths? We're not far from any of those facilities. We're less than an hour from the Seagrove pottery area with hundreds of galleries and studios. Stay overnight at The Forever Inn before heading to Seagrove.

• The Great Outdoors -
Pee Dee River, Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge, Uwharrie National Forest, Badin Lake, Morrow Mountain State Park, Lake Tillery, Cheraw State Recreation Area, Cheraw State Park golf course, Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge, City Pond (Wadesboro). • History -
Historic towns, antique stores, museums, genealogy research, Town Creek Indian Mound. (The Forever Inn B&B is within walking distance for family genealogical research. We are one block from the Genealogy room at the Anson County Library (Hampton B. Allen Library) and two blocks from the Anson County Courthouse (where genealogical records are easily accessible)). Antique stores, estate auctions, Uptown Wadesboro, gift shops, art galleries, wineries, North Carolina pottery.

•  Art and Pottery -
We're not far from Seagrove where you can tour the pottery studios of individual potters or visit a North Carolina pottery shop. Start at the North Carolina Pottery Center where they have an interesting and informative introduction to the pottery of North Carolina. Reg. admission is $2 but well worth it. Check their website or call 336-873-8430 for details on special exhibits, shows and receptions. Spend the day visiting the local potters' studios tucked into the rolling hills of the Seagrove area and return to The Forever Inn for an overnight stay.

There are numerous art galleries, gift and pottery shops in our region as well. Start across the street at Fancy Crafts and Granny Hollow Pottery. Visit the art galleries at the Anson County Arts Council (varied hours) and Olde Mill Gallery at South Piedmont Community College for a large collection of art work by local and regional artists.

Continue on to Falling Rivers Gallery in Albemarle where the Stanly County Artists Guild features work by local artists.

• Music / Theatre -
- Bluegrass music at Mt. Gilead Bluegrass Barn, 109 N. Main Street, Mt. Gilead, NC, 910-220-6426, every Sat. 7:30-10.
- Theatre, orchestra and ensemble groups at Wingate University.
- Murder mysteries at Dennis Vineyards near Albemarle NC.

• NASCAR racing, ARCA racing, burnouts and cruise-ins -
- Lowes Motor Speedway is less than an hour from The Forever Inn via scenic country roads. Escape the traffic in Concord and Charlotte and sneak in the "back door" to attend the next big race.
- Rockingham Speedway - The "Rock" is racing again at the Rockingham Raceway Park in Rockingham NC (home of the ARCA Carolina 500). (Also offering high performance driving school).
- Darlington Raceway in Darlington SC (near Florence SC) is less than an hour from The Forever Inn via Hwy 52. Guests have been very happy escaping the traffic by coming in the back way to the Darlington racetrack.
- Oakboro NC has once a month Friday night "burnouts" and cruise-ins (usually the 4th Fri. of each month; check our Calendar).

• Equestrian events -
During the season, there are a number of equestrian events in our area. Horse Trials in April at The Fork Stables in Norwood, NC. And events at Southern Eighths Farm in Chesterfield, SC (November and April).

• Agritourism -
Experience rural and farm businesses firsthand - produce stands with farm fresh produce, wineries, U-pick farms, corn mazes and more.  For information and links to agritourism businesses, check NC Dept. of Agriculture or Sandhills agritourism.

• Wineries and Winery Tours
Tour the wineries of central North Carolina. These wineries are less than 45 mins. north of Wadesboro in central NC - Uwharrie Vineyards, Stony Mountain Vineyards, Dennis Vineyards. • Birdwatching
Attention, birders! We are close to the NC Birding Trail. See www.NCbirdingtrail.org for information on birding trails in the Piedmont of North Carolina. The Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge, about 10 mins. north of Uptown Wadesboro, is a wonderful place for birdwatching. In addtion, south of Wadesboro near Cheraw, SC is the Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge as well. Click here for a review from a birder.

• Hunting
For hunting in Anson County, check www.buchananshoals.com, a private hunting reserve near the Pee Dee River. At certain times, hunting (quail, pheasant and chucker) is open to the public. •  Fishing
There are many opportunities for fishing in our area - on rivers or lakes, from the shore or a boat. There's the great Pee Dee River, the Rocky River, Blewett Falls Lake, Lake Tillery, Wadesboro City Pond.

Guided fishing trips are offered by Robbie Burr, a licensed fishing guide, of Pee Dee Fishing Adventures. Pee Dee Fishing Adventures specializes in catching big blue and flathead catfish. They also offer fishing trips for striped bass, american and hickory shad and mullet.
